History

On December 28th, 2010 the Ruler’s Court in Dubai approved the change of name from Roedl, Meyer-Reumann to Meyer-Reumann & Partners (M&P). The approval of Meyer-Reumann & Partners appears to be a solid platform for further expansions in the Middle East.

The history of Meyer-Reumann & Partners (M&P) may be summarized as follows: In 1981/82, after a maritime career ending with the German Master Certificate (A6) and after studying and practicing law in Hamburg for 5 years, Rolf Meyer-Reumann drafted maritime rules and regulations for the Saudi Ports Authority. This turned out to be the starting point for a permanent engagement in the Middle East. 1982 he started a co-operation with a Saudi law firm in Jeddah, which 1985 was extended to Riyadh. In 1988 he decided to expand his activities to the entire Gulf.
Early 1989, he was granted from the Ruler of Dubai a professional license as legal consultant without a local sponsor. He opened Meyer-Reumann Legal Consultancy (MRLC) in November 1989 at its present location in the Dubai World Trade Centre. MRLC took over the challenging task of expansion into all Gulf countries. Mrs. Elena Schildgen became a Partner of MRLC in 1995. The Saudi activities were continued in co-operation with Saudi partners in Jeddah and Riyadh. 1998 this function was taken over by the Saudi Section in the office of MRLC in Dubai and is now associated to the Saudi-German firm SAGECO in Riyadh.
In October 1994, a second office of MRLC was opened in Abu Dhabi. Since May 1996 Mr. Meyer-Reumann was visiting Iraq on a regular basis and in November 1998 MRLC associated with the Iraqi Law Office Auss M. Younis in Baghdad. In 2006 a new office was opened in Erbil, Kurdistan, which in 2008 was converted into a branch of Roedl, Meyer-Reumann.
As of January 1st, 2006, Rödl & Partner of Nuremberg, Germany, joined Meyer-Reumann Legal Consultancy for a period a 5 years and “Roedl, Meyer-Reumann” was formed as a civil works company. Additionally, Roedl, Meyer-Reumann Middle East Limited was formed as a holding in DIFC, Dubai, which extended its services to 14 countries covering in the Middle East and beyond: Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman (formed 2009), Qatar, Saudi Arabia (co-operation with SAGECO since 2009), Iran (formed 2008), Iraq (Baghdad association since 1998; Erbil association since 2006, branch formed 2008), Lebanon, Jordan, Yemen, Syria, Egypt (Alexandria formed 2009; Cairo formed 2010), and Sudan.
Since the very beginning in the early 80ies an internal legal databank was build up, which is permanently used, extended and improved by all lawyers and maintained by four in-house programmers to safeguard a high standard of M&P’s legal services. Wizards were created to facilitate the lawyer’s day to day work. Since 1997 lex arabiae, M&P’s legal inhouse magazine, informs the Clients and friends of legal news in the Middle East.
In October 1998 the scope of service was extended by forming the service company Sesam Business Consultants in Dubai and soon thereafter in Abu Dhabi and Baghdad. Sesam is providing non-legal business consultant’s services to Clients and is supporting them in setting up their business in the Region and in their day to day problems. Sesam gained local knowledge and takes over outsourced works (e.g. project related business studies and support, bookkeeping, P.R.O works, organizing seminars for various puposes, arranging one to one business meetings etc.). Sesam is serving as a bridge for German / European / UAE business connections in general and in both directions and may rely on the experience of MRLC in the Gulf since the early 80ies.
